APPLICATION GUIDELINES FOR FY2009

JAPAN CAPACITY BUILDING PROGRAM

FOR AFRICAN AGRICULTURAL RESEARCHERS

NOTICE:

 Applicants must submit their application forms to ICCAE by June 22, 2009. In the section 4-C of the application guidelines, there is a description "Submission of CVs may be postponed until the Selection Committee meeting scheduled to be held at the middle of July 2009.". However, CVs must arrive to the secretariat of Nagoya University by July 8.

NOTICE:

 African agricultural researchers are expected to find Japanese researchers by himself/herself.
 (Intermediation between Japanese and African researchers is beyond ICCAE's coordination.)

1. Purpose of the program

The purpose of this program is to :

a) strengthen collaboration between Japan and agricultural research organizations whose mission is African development, and

b) deliver Japanese know-how of agricultural research methods and technologies to Africa.

Training programs for promising young African researchers will be offered in agricultural research organizations, preferably in Africa. All training will be provided by Japanese researcher(s) currently working for African development and/or technology transfer to Africa.

Two Training methods will be offered, either on-the-job training or group-program training lasting 1 to 4 months (if within reason, the term may be extended for up to 6 months).

Host organizations will be CGIAR Centers, or other international agricultural research institutions, universities, or National Agriculture Research Institutes located outside Japan.

The total FY2009 budget for this program is $145,700 (exchange rate USD 1.00=\100)

2. Training period

The training program(s) will last between 1 to 4 months (if within reason, the term may be extended for up to 6 months), commencing in August 2009 and ending by February 2010.

3. Time-line

April 27, 2009: Call for applications
June 22, 2009: Deadline for submission of applications to ICCAE
Mid-July, 2009: ICCAE notifies applicants on selection results.
(Conclusion of the implementation agreements with host institutions)
August 2009 - : Launch and implementation of training programs
February 15, 2010: Deadline for submission of completion reports to ICCAE

4. Application procedure

Applicants must submit their application forms via e-mail to ICCAE by June 22, 2009
(E-mail address for submission: iccae4africa@agr.nagoya-u.ac.jp).

In case e-mail is not available, the application form(s) together with electronic medium such as floppy disk or CD-ROM may be mailed to ICCAE. Please refer Application Guidelines.
